Alabama Gulf Coast Zoo

Gulf Shores

16 acres of wilderness housing exotic animals and an aviary right by the beach.  There is also a petting zoo.

American Art and Sports Museum and Archives

Daphne

Founded in 1984 the museum is dedicated to the preservation of sports history, art and literature. The museum currently contains almost 1,000 pieces in all mediums: paintings, sculpture, prints, posters, photography and assemblages. The collection is believed to be the largest of sport art in North America.

Baldwin Museum of Art

Housed in a portion of a 1900s building which displays contemporary art of Baldwin County.  Open Friday, 10am - 4pm.

Baldwin County Heritage Museum

Elberta

Focuses on the area's rural lifestyle.  Displays include needlework wall hangings, and artifacts.  There is also a nature trail.

Biophilla Nature Center

Picture plant bogs, wildflower meadows, forests and a swamp are located on this 20 acre nature habitat.

Weeks Bay National Estuarine

Features nature trails and a boardwalk overlooking Weeks Bay.  There is also a learning center with many displays of the local wildlife.

Bon Secour National Wildlife Refuge

This 6,200 acre preserve features nature and hiking trails as well as five miles of beach.  373 different bird species use this refuge as a stopover on migration routes.

On the opposite shore from Fort Gaines this fort was one of the last Confederate forts to fall to the Union in 1864.  Today, a museum focuses on the importance of the fort, from the War of 1812 through WW II.

This 6,000 acre state park features picnic areas, pavilions, an 18-hole golf course, an 825-foot saltwater fishing pier, a nature trail, cabins, campsites, and motel.

Historic Blakeley State Park

Spanish Fort

A 2000 acre park home to the last major land battle between the Union and Confederacy.  There are earthen works, trails and waterfront on the Tensaw River.

Holmes Medical Museum

Preserves the history of Sibley Holmes Memorial Hospital which opened in 1935 and operated until 1958 when South Baldwin Hospital was opened.  See an operating room, pharmacy, patient rooms and examining room.  Much of the equipment and furnishings are original.  There is also a room exhibiting instruments used in quackery medicine.

The Mobile Bay Bears, the AA affiliate of the San Diego Padres play a 140- game schedule from April through September.  Home games are played at the Hank Aaron Stadium.

The museum has 95,000 square feet of gallery space and educational wing.  The museum features a permanent collection of more than 6,000 pieces, traveling exhibits, and lecture series.

Display Mobile's 300 year history as well as exhibits on Native Americans, Mardi Gras, and African-American contributions to the the City of Mobile.  There is also a discover room for kids to interact with artifacts.

USS Alabama Battleship Memorial Park

This WWII-era ship was the winner of nine WW II Battle Stars.  Other attractions include 21 historic aircraft, a flight simulator, the submarine USS Drum, and indoor aircraft pavilion, a nature observatory and fishing pier.

Gulf Coast Exploreum Museum and IMAX

Hands-on interactive experience.  There are permanent and traveling exhibits from major science centers.  There is also an IMAX theater.

Bellingrath Gardens

65 acres of landscape gardens.  You can also tour the Bellingraph Home (featured on A&E's American Castles), Boehm Porcelain Gallery, and the Magic Christmas in Lights display in December.

Estuarium at Dauphin Island Sea Lab

An aquarium that highlights the different ecosystems of the area (Gulf of Mexico, Gulf Coast, Mobile Bay, Tensaw River Delta system).  Educational instruction is available by docents and media.  Touch tables are housed for the kids.

A replica of the French colonial fort that dates back to the early 1700's chronicles the French, British, Spanish and American occupations of Mobile.

Sister Fort to its neighbor, Fort Morgan across the Mobile Bay.  Involved in the famous Battle of Mobile Bay during the Civil War.  today a ferry transports guests between the two forts.

National Museum of Naval Aviation

One of the three largest kind in the world, this 291,000 square foot facility houses more than 130 aircraft, and memorabilia chronicling aviation history from 1911 to the present.  Other features include an IMAX theater.
