American Chamfer Services of Mobile recently began construction of their 11,000 sq. ft. building in the Summerdale-Magnolia Springs Area.  American Chamfer is owned by Chris Peterson and         manufactures wooden forms for concrete construction applications.  The company is investing $300,000 in Baldwin County and plans to employ 23 people by 2005.  BCEDA managed the project and partnered with Summerdale Industrial Development Board and South Baldwin Chamber of Commerce to solidify American Chamfers decision to expand in Baldwin County.

Diversified Manufacturing Lab Opens at Baldwin County High School
Students at Baldwin County High School will have the opportunity to learn various manufacturing concepts and practice these concepts with hands-on activities.  This lab is modeled on the               pre-engineering lab that is in place at Fairhope High School. The Baldwin County Economic               Development Alliance, the North Baldwin Chamber of Commerce and Baldwin County Public Schools along with local businesses including Den-Tal-Ez, International Paper, Quincy Compressor and Standard Furniture have worked on this project for several years.  Business leaders were asked to recommend actual curriculum topics to be included in the lab.  As a result of these discussions the following are some of the learning stations available in the lab; electronics, hydraulics, thermal dynamics, quality  control, and robotics.
Through the School to Career Partnership, $50,000.00  in grant funds were made available to    purchase the equipment, computers and software.  Baldwin County Public Schools have modified space to accommodate the new lab and a teacher has been hired to manage the lab.  This continued open communication between schools and business ensures that students will get the preparation necessary to fill future jobs.
