                                      Presidents Report

Despite the slowing economy in the housing sector and the expected slowdown in housing related consumer goods spending, your Baldwin County Economic Development Alliance (Alliance) staff is optimistic that 2008 will be another good year from industrial, distribution and professional/high-tech standpoints.

Our overall project numbers are holding steady and the size of our average project has increased substantially.  We are seeing activity related to ThyssenKrupp suppliers and customers and could have our first TK related announcement soon.

The Alliance will be very proactive in recruiting this year.  We have already helped the State of Alabama and the Alabama Development Office (ADO) host 18 leading site location consultants, will soon be attending a large retail distribution tradeshow in conjunction with the Port of Mobile and the Mobile Chamber, and are helping sponsor a huge Atlanta based site location consultant’s event in early March.

In 2009 Baldwin County will host the Southern Economic Development Council Annual Meeting at the Grand Hotel.  Almost 400 leading economic developers from 17 Southern States as well as top site location consultants from all over the U.S. are expected to attend.

We have wonderful partnerships with Baldwin County’s five Chambers of Commerce and with the Alabama Gulf Coast Convention and Visitors Bureau.  Working closely together with our outstanding private and public sector leaders, there is no goal that we cannot reach.

Thank you for your help and friendship.

Robert Ingram
President/CEO
