           President's Report

Our March 27, 2008 Alliance Investors Reception, which is described in more detail later in the newsletter, will be a “can’t miss” event for anyone interested in the impact of ThyssenKrupp on Baldwin County.  Robert Soulliere, President and CEO of ThyssenKrupp Steel USA, LLC will discuss the details of the project and possible impact on Baldwin County.

Northrop Grumman/EADS win KC45 Tanker Project!  What an incredible regional accomplishment.  BCEDA and the Baldwin County Commission were major players in the fight to win this $40 billion contract to produce the United States’ next generation refueling tanker.  The impact on Baldwin County will be substantial as we have a large number of certified aerospace sites, with easy access to Brookley Field and the Port of Mobile.

Our partnership with Mobile leaders, state and utility economic development officials, Governor Riley and our congressional delegation is an exciting one—AND IT WORKS!  New high pay, high tech, professional jobs are on the way.  Please thank our Baldwin County Commissioners for their help because they were instrumental in making this project happen and for providing the resources for the Alliance to do our job.

And of course, a big thank you to each of you for your support of the Alliance.  Together we will build a better, more prosperous Baldwin County.

Robert Ingram
President/CEO

SOUTH ALABAMA COMMERCIAL LAUNDRY

Congratulations Sheila Hodges on the announcement and groundbreaking of South Alabama Commercial Laundry.

Per Sheila, owner and Chairman of the Board of Meyer Real Estate, “This exciting new venture is a state-of-the-art laundry that will no doubt draw attention in the community as being a “green” facility and one that is amazingly labor-efficient.” Hodges further explains, “The commercial laundry has been a dream of mine for over 15 years and it is thrilling to see the realization of my vision. The 30,000-square-foot facility will have the capacity to process 8 million pounds of laundry yearly in a single-shift, 5-day work week with expansion possible as needed. The first year the South Alabama Commercial Laundry will employ approximately 15 people. The equipment represents the latest in technology for conserving both water and gas/electric, and for using environmentally green chemicals. Plans are underway to serve the commercial laundry needs of customers in a four-state area.”
