Letter from the President

The year 2010 certainly has not gone the way any of us expected or hoped that it would.

The Deepwater Horizon Oil Spill has affected literally every business and every person in Baldwin County, almost all of the impact has been negative. But even bad things sometimes have positive results. This manmade disaster has forced us to work closer together, to create new alliances and partnerships, to develop better plans for tomorrow and for long into the future. It has brought new appreciation for what we had and for we want and need. Out of disaster has come resiliency, a determination not to let anything destroy this great community, and an attitude of not just survival, but of victory.

Working together we will not fail, and in the long run, we will prevail, better, smarter, and stronger. Together we can, together we will.

Thanks for caring!

BOB HIGGINS RECEIVES COMMENDATION FROM THE GOVERNOR

After the 2010 Alabama Workforce Development Conference, SAWDC Past Chairman Bob Higgins was honored for his service as Chairman of Region 9 by Alabama Governor Bob Riley. Bob's service as Chairman of Region 9 goes back as far as 2004 and predates the creation of SAWDC. The seven counties of Region 9 excluded Mobile County until the Governor's Office of  Workforce Development realigned the regions in 2007. With the realignment and incorporation of Mobile County, Bob agreed to continue serving as Chairman to assist with the transition. He has been an integral leader in the creation of the 501(c)3 organization, SAWDC, that coincides with Region 9. We join the Governor in thanking Bob for his years of tremendous leadership and service to this region. (Taken from the SAWDC November newsletter).

The Baldwin County Economic Development Alliance would like to commend Bob for his excellent service to our area and in representation of our organization.
